There was a great turnout for the 40th birthday race of the Islandsbanki Reykjavik Marathon 2024 which was held on Saturday the 24th of August in bright and beautiful weather. Registered runners were 14.646, which is roughly 3000 more registered runners than last year. 7514 male runners were registered, 7069 female runners and 23 non-binary. There was a great atmosphere in the downtown area and spectators celebrated tired runners as they crossed the finish line.
Anca Irina Faiciuc from Romania was the winner of the marathon in the female category with the time 03:06:25. In second place was Freya Mary Leman from Great Britain and in third place was Kerry Ann Arouca from the United States. José Sousa from Portugal was the fastest runner of the marathon in the male category with the time 02:20:33. In second place was Philemon Kemboi from Kenya and in third place was Odd Arne Engesæter from Norway.
Halldóra Huld Ingvadóttir from Iceland was the fastest female runner of the half marathon with the time 01:22:07. In second place was Vaida Nakrosiute from Lithuania and in third place from Iceland was Anna Berglind Pálmadóttir.
Arnar Pétursson was the fastest runner of the half marathon in the male category with the time 01:08:20. In second place was Nils Fischer from Germany and in third place was Þorsteinn Roy Jóhannsson from Iceland.
Elías Rúni was the fastest runner in the half marathon in the non-binary category with the time 01:44:27. In second place was Ace Murphy from Great Britain and in third place was Courtenay Mayes from Canada.
In the 10K female category, Sigþóra Brynja Kristjánsdóttir was the fastest runner with the time 36:24. In second place was Elín Edda Sigurðardóttir from Iceland and in thrird place was Eva Garcia Morales from Spain.
Hlynur Andresson was the fastest runner of the 10K in the male category with the time 30:24. This was also a new track record in the 10K. In second place was Dean Yost from the United States and in third place was Stefán Kári Smárason.
Carlos Luis Rangles from Ecuador was the fastest runner of the 10K in the non-binary category. Aró Berg was in second place and Sól Dagsdóttir was in third place.
A fun run was also held where runners could choose from 1,7K and 3K, and runners from every age ran a track full of mystical creatures, there was a foam disco, musical performances and there was a costume competion.
A record was broken on hlaupastyrkur.is/en, which is a website where you can pledge donations to various charities. Over 250 million ISK were raised which is an incredible achievement.
