Trúðavaktin is Iceland´s first hospital clown organisation of its kind.  Working at Trúðavaktin are professional actors who have trained specifically in Hospital clowning.

Trúðavaktin is for hospitalised children and their families at Barnaspítali Hringsins and is free of charge. The clowns visit children in the age group 0-18 years, every Thursday, all year around, two at a time. The wards that the clowns visit are the medicine and surgery inpatient unit, the children's day unit, the intensive care unit, the children's emergency room and the intensive care unit. The role of the clowns is to bring positive energy to the hospital environment and to create short memorable and joyful moments in often difficult situations.

Trúðavaktin, began working on the 1st March 2018 and consists of 14 professional performers and is operated in a good collaboration with all wards at Barnaspítali Hringsins. Trúðavaktin has a clear workframe and work ethics that have been structured in collaboration with the hospital and in relation to the workframe and -ethics The International Health Care Clowning Organisation has developed through the years.

The main objective of Trúðavaktin is to cheer and bring positive energy to hospitalised children and their families. The hospital provides important medical- and healthcare but at the same time the hospitalisation is a large intervention into children's day life and often brings out difficult emotions, worries, fear, pain, sadness, communication difficulties and repetition. When the environment around the child is relaxed and allows laughter and joy, it affects the child greatly and creates a safe space and improved well-being.

We cannot forget to mention a collective experience the children get with their closest ones and the clowns. This experience can be a great entertainment that they can talk about long after the clowns have left the room. That is how the clown can take part in fulfilling positive experiences and memories of the stay at the hospital.

This extremely important project is brought forward by the passion of everyone involved and relies entirely on funding in order to be active. Trúðavaktin emphasises on never making Barnaspítali Hringsins bear any costs or contribute to the financing of the organisation.
